Parent - Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Overwhelmed by your child’s tantrums and/or oppositional behavior?
Embarrassed by your child’s behavior when out in public?
Dread phone calls from daycare or preschool about your child’s challenging behavior?
PCIT might be for you!
At Child Matters we offer parents and caregivers of young children this highly effective treatment model.
Parent - Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
PCIT is a short-term, evidence-based treatment designed for young children (ages 2–7) who are experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges, including noncompliance, impulsivity, aggression, and anxiety.
This dyadic intervention empowers parents and caregivers by teaching effective parenting skills and providing live, in-the-moment coaching to strengthen the parent-child relationship. PCIT helps children develop emotional regulation, increase cooperation, and reduce anxiety—while building a secure and positive bond with their caregiver.
Through structured “in-vivo coaching,” parents learn to shift negative behavior patterns into positive, nurturing interactions. You'll gain proven strategies to help your child feel calmer, more secure, and develop healthy self-esteem.
In addition, PCIT teaches safe, effective discipline techniques that reduce defiance and improve attention, cooperation, and overall behavior.
Research consistently shows long-lasting results, including:
Fewer and less severe tantrums and aggressive behaviors
Reduced defiance and oppositional behavior
Increased attention span
Greater emotional regulation and self-esteem
Improved behavior in public and social settings
Increased parental confidence and calmness during discipline
